Orbiting a dim red dwarf about 15 light-years from Earth, Rula Tun-Kali shares its system with several planets whose strong gravitational interactions keep their orbits in constant motion.
The planet has a very small orbit, circling its star at 0.13 AU, roughly one-third of Mercury’s distance from the Sun. However, since the star’s heat is so faint, it actually places the planet in the inner edge of the habitable zone.
Its orbit is highly eccentric, causing large swings in distance and temperature, which may drive strong winds and atmospheric tides. The upper atmosphere appears mostly clear, allowing more starlight to reach the surface. This makes the planet’s skies unusually bright for a world around such a dim star.
