A descendant of the Bactrian camel, these large hardy herbivores can be seen wandering the harsh biomes of the Southern Wastes. As the temperatures started to decrease in the Ark as part of its cycles, this species evolved adaptions for this new environment. Some of these include shorter hair during warmer seasons while in winter months they grow patchy long shaggy brown fur that protects the front portion of their body from the driving snow and winds of their new frigid home. These adaptations are needed because of their tendency to herd while moving towards storms and wind rather than against them like most species. This may have evolved as a defense mechanism to keep away from predators during the harsh winter months that they find themselves in for a portion of the year.
Other adaptations include the redistribution of fatty humps to help with body heat and water retention for long treks across their range of distribution, thick blubbery deposits of fat on the neck and head for insolation, and protection of major vessels/arteries in these exposed and vulnerable areas. In addition, unlike their ancestors, these camels are heavy and slow but their feet are able to distribute their weight to make crossing ice and snow easier. Another aspect worth noting is that these animals are still used by cultures, including for textile and food production, farming, travel, and sports along with other things.
